Fridays With Francis - The Prayer of St. Francis

One of the most widely known St. Francis pieces is "The Prayer of Saint Francis", a beautiful prayer that cannot be shown to have been written by Francis at all. Be that as it may, it represents the very best of this wonderful saint and his heart. It is a prayer for peace that we would all do well to pray and live by. The following is the most popular English translation (via Wikipedia):

Lord, make me an instrument of Thy peace;
where there is hatred, let me sow love;
where there is injury, pardon;
where there is doubt, faith;
where there is despair, hope;
where there is darkness, light;
and where there is sadness, joy.

O Divine Master,
grant that I may not so much seek to be consoled as to console;
to be understood, as to understand;
to be loved, as to love;
for it is in giving that we receive,
it is in pardoning that we are pardoned,
and it is in dying that we are born to Eternal Life.

Amen.

3 - Hi Jamie,

I'm a newcomer to your blog and a newcomer to the entire missional discussion. I've already found your blog inspirational. That would include this wonderful prayer that I haven't heard since I was a child.
