Fridays With Francis - An Exciting New Direction & Need of Your Help

The past couple of weeks have been fairly significant for me in my journey with St. Francis. As many of you know, I have been working on a novelized biograhy of St. Francis for some time. Recently, when discussing the project with an established literary agent, I was confronted with some challenges. First, the genre is one of the most difficult to write, especially for a first time novelist. Second, as my primary writing strength is non-fiction, the time and energy this project would require might come at the expense of other projects. So I had some thinking and praying to do.

As a result, I have decided to put the project on the shelf for now. I am not abandoning it, but relegating it to a long-term project of less immediate priority. However, deep in research about St. Francis and very inspired by his life and impact, I was not ready to put the "little poor man" on the shelf altogether. So again, I went to thought and prayer.

I am excited to say that the result has been the outline of a non-fiction book, tentatively titled "A Living Alternative: The Missional Wisdom of St. Francis of Assisi". Drawing from the wisdom and example of St. Francis of Assisi, this book will inspire and equip believers to embrace their intended identity as missional Christians, both as individuals and communities. I am currently having an agency consider representing the project, so please keep me in your prayers.

It would also really help if you would take the time to leave a comment here expressing your interest in such a book. Be honest, but be vocal! (wink) Thanks all.

1 - Jamie, no doubt I would be interested. There is so much value in words of the saints that went before us. I would love to see how the words of St. Francis could apply to the 21st century follower of Jesus. Especially how to live missionally in our world.

I'd buy one. Honestly. (Comment this)

3 - Thanks Joe. I agree. Francis is amazing in that he is one of the single most influential saints, yet left comparatively little writing. It was his life and example that was so influential.

7 - There is a great need to remember Francis from as many voices and perspectives as possible. If more Christians followed Francis as he followed Christ, the world would change. I will buy one and encourage others to as well. (Comment this)
