The Dusty Cover: Going Strong, But Still Needs Your Help

After opening our doors two months ago The Dusty Cover is already doing really well. With the Spring thaw arriving, we are seeing a steady growth in local drop in, with regulars already forming. The neighbourhood kids are in daily and we building relationship with them and their families. Financially we are still working hard to make ends meet, but we are doing better than we had expected at this stage. God is good!

However, we still need see some growth and change very soon. We need involvement from others to help us serve and engage more effectively. Here are a few ways you can be involved:

Volunteers: Our small team of 5 are covering all the shift while still running the rest of our ministry. It is beginning to tax our energy, so we need to see some people join us as volunteer staff. The most needed help is for people to come and hang out with the kids. This happens primarily over lunch (noon to 1pm), after school and Saturdays. With the summer coming we expect to see them more regularly.

Furnishing: The kids section is already in need of more furnishing. Another kids size table and chair set, plus some new (and more durable) bean bags are essential. The kids are always amazed that we would invest in quality material for them. There is also need for some minor “fix it/finishing” jobs to be done around the store. None of us on staff are “thusly inclined” nor do we have a big budget. Any help is appreciated.

Finances: Due to an unfortunately and discouraging event out of our control, we are still struggling under a significant finances strain. We are praying for both one time gifts to the bookstore, as well as those who adopt the store for regular financial support. Our long term goal is that, out of the church plant, we would see more involvement and support grow, but until that happens we are hoping for some help.

Even in the face of these very real and immediate needs, we are excited by what is happening at the bookstore. We truly feel as though we are participating in the community where God was already at work. It is a very rewarding feeling. Thanks for your continued prayer, encouragement and support.
